Department of Tourism and Cultural Heritage

The Department of Tourism and Cultural Heritage was created in January 2017. It is a brand new Department with many exciting activities and projects taking place.

It all started with the opening of the MA programme in Management of Sustainable Tourism in September 2016. This postgraduate programme resulted from from a partnership between Unisey and IREST, the Institute of Research and Advanced Studies of Tourism of Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne.

The Department values exchanges and complementarity of expertise. Half of its lecturers are residents of Seychelles, both academics and professionals, very well aware of the local issues; and the other half of the lecturers are  from Paris, bringing another kind of expertise.

For its first cohort, local stakeholders from different Ministries and other institutions are being given the chance to follow this high level of training in the Seychelles. For the next cohorts, the program will still be open to local stakeholders but the aim of the Department is to become more and more international and to promote the sharing of diverse experiences. Collaboration with France will be reinforced, and we would also welcome students, lecturers, researchers and stakeholders from the Indian ocean area, South Africa, China, India etc.

On the research side, the Department would like to open up internationally by developing comparative analysis on best practices in Tourism and Heritage Policies.
